In short, without defending the violence, I would say that treating mqm like 'enemy combatants' flies in the face of all progressive shouting themselves hoarse over Gauntanomo.

The fact that they have hoodlums and are lead by a crazy and vain meglomaniac, does not detract the fact that they are representing Karachi. They have the votes, and are a legitimate Pakistani party. Deal with it . . . politically.
