Mr Hitchins July 4th Bitchins
Here we go Mr Hitchens is at it again with his aptly applied generalizations in This July Fourth Ignore polls on America’s image.
Well, personally I can't stand Hitchens. Firstly because once he said something ridiculous like he knows more about Iraq then most Iraqis, secondly he wrote a preposterous article on Ian Fleming in Atlantic Monthly two months back where he called Fleming a perv because Ian defined Bond girl's bottom's as 'boyish'. If Hitchens had lived one tenth of a life lived by Ian Fleming, his sad attempts at humor would have been more appealing. But his pettiness is even more exposed when he took an out of context and cheap shot against George Galloway, his current nemesis by comparing his party to SMERSH (Fleming’s evil henchman society).
Lastly, cause Hitchens like his friend Salman Rushdie (can’t believe I got beaten up in college over that Oreo bastard) supported the war on Iraq not with the Fox style jingoism, which is what it is, but with liberal empathy.
NEWSFLASH for Hitchens, please poll Australians to find out how much they love America, every Aussie I meet when I travel (or maybe I only meet hippie backpacker) bitch about America to the point that now people are saying the world cup referees were especially hard on Americans because the WORLD HATES AMERICA (this from a middle aged Dutch engineer)
I will give you another example that shows the way quotes are generated. Majority of Pakistanis believe that Jews left the building before 911 is probably as true as majority of Americans think that Saddam was responsible for 911.
As for Pakistani's hating Jews, that is a broad statement. Most sane Pakistanis know better, and they are people of the book, the greatest hero of our country (Imran Khan) married a Jewish princess and got little grief over it (they are now divorced and she is dating Huge Grunt) and I personally know many Pakistani friends (note: I did not say I have many Jewish friends) who work with Jews as the cotton apparel industry is dominated by NY Jews who mostly buy from third world countries like
Bangladesh and Pakistan. One friend told me that when they travel they both pray together in the room facing opposite sides of the wall (great movie idea)
Pakistan does not recognize State of Israel, and as far as the state is concerned the word hatred is pretty much dead on. Being non-Arab has nothing to do with it, they grieve as members of ummah (Muslim community) for Palestinians and Israeli antics as the rabid mad dog does not help either. However, there is some positive news with Pakistanis in Israel to promote peace.
